`How did I miss this subject? Spanking is a big turn-on for me -- receiving spankings, up to a point that is. I do have a threshold beyond which it isn't fun anymore. I grew up being spanked with a wooden spoon, so implements resembling one -- e.g. paddle, spatula -- are where I start. I often self-inflict using these. I am also curious about the riding crop, how it works, having never experienced it.

As to the why -- it is all about consent. I resented childhood spankings so much, I am actually staunchly opposed to spanking children; and con-------ity is the big reason why. If the subject of spanking (children) comes up, my ready answer is, "Between consenting adults I have no problem with it, but inflicting it on a child below the age of consent is just sick." This would of course scandalize "polite" listeners, and that's the idea -- I am that strongly opposed.

Just as I considered childhood spankings as a betrayal -- this person I trusted turned on me -- so I consider con------- spankings between adults as a powerful expression of trust, i.e. I trust you enough to offer my bare buttocks willingly. This is also the only way I can make sense of people who can look back on their own childhood spankings without resentment -- maybe their trust in their parents was such that, on some level they DID offer their bottoms willingly?

`I would add this is one of those areas where, even with good communication, it is difficult to get both participants on the same page. Think about it: ask anyone, where is the line between a normal spanking and child abuse, and guaranteed, everyone will put that line at something more severe than what they themselves do. Abusers do not know they are abusers, because, like the rest of us, they define abuse as something worse than their own actions.

The application of this truth to us as b d s m participants was driven home to me earlier this year, when I met a new spanker I wanted to try being with. Although we communicated our interests ahead of time, that didn't help -- his idea of a normal spanking was far more severe than what I was prepared for.
