The "B" is separate from the "D"

The abbreviation b d s m is a catch-all category for a wide range of fetishes, which sort of makes sense, because many people who have one of them will also have others. But we cannot assume that everyone in this group is equally into all four letters. (Most obviously, many Sadists have no desire at all to play the Masochist role, and vice versa.)

So if we know the "S" and "M" are separate, it follows that the "B" and "D" can also be separate, and a person into one might not be into the other. The stereotypical "whips and chains" may or may not be in the same room at the same time.

In my case, I lean much more toward the "B" than the "D," although both have a place in my life.

Bondage: I do a lot of self-bondage when I am not seeing anyone, and it can be rigorous. My crowning achievement in that department so far is portrayed in my profile picture: hands tied to the wall, ankles tied together, fully nude, blindfold such as to exclude all light (so that I could not have any sense of time). I entered it as soon as my alarm went off at 6 am, with the intention of staying until it went off again the following 6 am, 24 hours. In the event, I paroled myself around midnight, having only gone 18 hours. But still -- how many bondage role players go 18 hours at once, with the realism of being unable to go get food or water, or to the bathroom? And then felt I was weak for not staying those last 6 hours when I had made it three-quarters of the way? )

Discipline: I really only like limited spanking, on the bare buttocks, with selected implements; and not by an angry, shouting disciplinarian (who could possibly respect someone so immature? ), but one with "the calm of command," measured enough not to cross into abuse.

So you see how different can be one person's tastes in the two different fetishes of "bondage" and "discipline," which are hidden in the single, catch-all category of "b d s m."

There seems to be some kind of competition among Masochists, at least in this forum, where it seems you are supposed to feel inadequate if you aren't into everything hard-core; where whomever is the most hard-core is seen as the winner. But maybe that's just my own impression. So, here is my part to counter that stereotype, by admitting to what I am not as much into, as well as what I am. Who will step out like that next?

Yes, well, you are right of course. There are many different areas within b d s m to be had.
Hardcore, softcore, bondage, discipline, etc. Looks like there are some groups here that address the various aspects of b d s m. Seems that you have your sceners, you know, the --- club players, and then you have the privates, who want to have some aspect of b d s m to share with just thier partner, or family. Pretty easy to distinguish the partiers from the private folks.
At least this is how I look at it. I am a private type myself. I dont scene.
